Amazon buys iRobot: Bezos wants all things. Whole foods! A Medical! And now… Roomba? In the latest in a series of seemingly sudden and somewhat surprising acquisitions, Amazon drops $1.7 billion for the company best known for its robotic vacuum cleaners.

Facebook Shuts Down Live Shopping: If you’re using Facebook’s “live shopping” feature to sell things via stream, it might be time to look for a new platform. While live streaming isn’t going away, the special store-focused features will go dark in October.

More layoffs at Robinhood: Phew. Just a few months ago, Robinhood laid off 9% of its full-time staff; this week, the company confirmed it is releasing another 23%. Referring to over-hire over the past few wild years, CEO Vlad Tenev writes, “I approved and took responsibility for our ambitious workforce trajectory – this is up to me.”

YC is getting smaller: it had to happen eventually. Y Combinator got bigger and bigger with each acceleration class, peaking at an absurd 414 companies in the last batch. They’re scaling things back a bit with the next cohort – but at about 250 companies, it’s still relatively large.
