September 8, 2022: Mr. Asif Inam, chairman of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association – Southern Zone has urged the government to allow the immediate release of textile machinery and their spare parts that were stuck due to import restrictions.
Mr Asif Inam said in a statement that if imports of machines and the parts essential for the proper functioning of power plants and factories and machines for production are stopped, the industry would gradually stop running.
He further said that our members are experiencing serious difficulties to run their factories as a result of the government ban and subjecting the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to the permission of the federal government.
He said the textile industry is the main export-oriented industry, earning more than 60 percent of foreign exchange earnings through exports.
It requested the Prime Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, and the Minister of Finance, Mr Miftah Ismail, to take note of the situation and to give guidelines to the competent authorities to prohibit the importation of textile machinery and its spare parts covered by the chapters 84 and 85 of the Customs Tariff without further delay.
Otherwise, the textile industry’s production activities will be disrupted and the country will lose export markets, he warned.
