August 30, 2022: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT) is in the process of establishing a state-of-the-art Center of Excellence (CoE) for Animation in Karachi, Federal IT Minister Syed Amin-ul-Haque said Monday.
The ministry has also set up an animation studio on the premises of the National Incubation Center (NIC) Karachi in partnership with Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), according to a press release issued today.
During a meeting with the Global Tech Firm Tencent Holdings Ltd delegation led by Mr Lih Shuin Goh Senior Director Public Affairs Singapore here in the MoITT office on Monday.
“The global animation industry is estimated to be worth about $370 billion, while the Pakistani animation industry currently earns about $50 million in export earnings,” the minister said.
The outreach of Pakistan’s gaming and animation industry is committed to supporting and facilitating the local animation and game development industry, he noted.
He also added: “the industry is in a nascent stage; however, incredible work is underway”.
Mr. Lih Shuin Goh briefed the Federal Minister on the work of his company, saying: “Tencent Games is the world’s largest global platform for the development, publication and exploitation of video games, focused on providing high-quality interactive entertainment experiences for gamers across the world. whole world” .
It currently offers more than 140 proprietary and licensed games in 200 countries and regions, he added.
He also stated, “Pakistan has great potential and is an important market for Tencent Games”.
Syed Amin-ul-Haque assured the delegation of his possible cooperation and support regarding the gaming and animation sector in Pakistan.
