PROVISION – A manager with over 25 years of experience working with various organizations across the country will lead, at least temporarily, Social Enterprise Greenhouse.

The nonprofit that supports the company has appointed Julie Owens as interim CEO, temporarily assuming the role once held by Kelly Ramirez. Owens told Providence Business News on Tuesday that she began serving as the organization’s interim CEO three weeks ago, while there was some transitional overlap during Ramirez’s final days with Social Enterprise Greenhouse.

Ramirez officially left the organization she led since 2009 on August 26 to become Providence College’s new Donald Ryan Incubator for Entrepreneurship in the Arts & Sciences Director.

“When I got the call about this interim role a few weeks ago, I was really excited to come in during this time,” Owens said.

Owens’ career has revolved around strategic planning and project management, she said. About four years ago, Owens shared that she first started working with Social Enterprise Greenhouse on a strategic plan. Since then, she has worked with the organization on more program-based projects.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Social Enterprise Greenhouse, Owens said, has developed an expert coaching program for micro-enterprises to help them connect with business support services to weather the health crisis.

Owens said she will focus on continuity and leadership within Social Enterprise Greenhouse in the coming months and will be a “leadership bridge” so that the organization can continue to serve the business community. Owens said the fall programs, such as the “Ideator” idea development program, the “Incubator” enterprise launch basics program and Spain’s “Incubadora” program, which are due to start soon, “have received good interest.”

“It shows that SEG continues to be a vibrant ecosystem that provides programs and services that entrepreneurs and small businesses in Rhode Island need,” said Owens. “It is up to me to play a part in that during this transition.”

We are looking for a permanent CEO at Social Enterprise Greenhouse.
