Based on an analysis of 23 jobs in healthcare, fintech, technology, marketing and advertising and logistics, Remote revealed the best freelance jobs in the US,

Freelance copywriter

The top job for the self-employed in the US right now is a copywriter. Remote’s research found that there are 49,500 searches on Google in the US for copywriting roles each month, and there are plenty of opportunities for freelance copywriters to find work. Copywriters in the US earn about $46 an hour on average.

For employers, hiring a talented freelance copywriter to create clear, compelling copy can give them a marketing advantage over competitors.

Freelance Therapist

The second best freelance gig in 2022 is a therapist. In the US, an average of 368,000 searches for therapists are made each month, confirming how popular this profession is. By supporting clients to make positive changes and develop better mental health, freelance therapists typically earn about $44 per hour in the US.

Freelance creative director

Remote’s survey found that freelance creative directors were the third best work in 2022. People who work as creative directors typically earn about $96 an hour and are responsible for overseeing asset creation and leading creative teams.

Freelance Social Media Manager

With 33,000 monthly searches in the US, Remote social media managers ranks as the fourth most lucrative freelance gig. Those who manage the brand’s social media accounts typically earn about $26 an hour.

Freelance data scientist

The fifth best freelance gig in 2022 is a data scientist, who earns an average hourly wage of $45.

Digital PR professionals came in sixth on Remote’s list, followed by software engineers, distributors, network security professionals and tenth financial analysts.

Best countries for freelancers to live and work

Remote also analyzed the best countries to live and work in based on average broadband speed, average freelance wages, market competitiveness and inflation.

United States

Ranked in the top spot for freelancers is the United States, which has one of the fastest average broadband speeds and the second-highest number of active freelancer jobs. In the US, the average annual salary for freelancers is around $35,000.


In second place is Germany, where the number of active freelance vacancies is 22,157. Freelancers earn an average annual salary of about $43,000 in Germany.


The third best country for freelance work is Switzerland, where the broadband internet speed averages 229.96 megabits per second. The average freelancer salary in Switzerland is about $73,000 per year.
